Event description
This training event will be facilitated on the topic of self harm in children and young people. The event aims to increase our understanding of self-harm, and explore the ways in which we may support those who present with this as coping strategy.
Training objectives
This course will: 
Explore current understanding of self harming behaviours
Explore the reasons why children and young people self harm
Understand how to support a child who manages their distress through the use of self harm
Explore safeguarding issues related to self harm
Provide a space to discuss anxiety related to managing self harm
Explore pathways for referrals and escalation of self harming behaviours
Learning outcomes
Understanding and managing self harm in children and young people By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Define what self harm is

  • Articulate why children and young people may self harm

  • Achieve confidence in abilities to support a child, who copes through the use of self harm

  • Demonstrate confident in managing safeguarding concerns related to self harm behaviour

  • Implement strategies to manage own anxiety related to managing self harm behaviour
