WSCB Annual Conference: Safeguarding Young People: Prevention and Intervention in Knife crime

Event/course summary This year the annual Wandsworth Safeguarding Children Board conference is focusing on the exploitation of children. In particular focussing on County Lines, Trafficking and Extremism.
Aims The aim of the conference is to enable professionals to hear about young people and their families about the impact of child exploitation. The conference will also focus on County Lines, Trafficking and Extremism and strategies for intervention and contextualised safeguarding.
Learning outcomes - skills and knowledge - Illustrate the impact of child exploitation on children and their families.
- Be informed of research findings to support prevention and early intervention of child sexual exploitation.
- Develop and discuss strategies and solutions for early intervention, prevention for criminal exploitation of children in county lines. and post trauma support for young people.
- Recognising the intervention and support needs - for children vulnerable to extremism.
Intended impact on practice Practitioners will be able to draw from research findings and discuss strategies for providing solutions for early intervention, prevention.
Young people will be safer in their communities, practitioners will be more informed and feel empowered to make a difference.
Additional event/course information There will be a theatre production on knife crime by ‘Chicken Shed’ who bring together young people from diverse backgrounds and abilities. The extract of ‘Crime of the Century’ will be followed by a Q&A with the cast.
Who is this event for? This is an important event for practitioners in service areas involved with or working with young people who are vulnerable to extremism, sexual and criminal exploitation.

Information about trainer(s) Invited guest speakers are young people and their families this includes a victim, perpetrator, parents of victim, parents of a perpetrator and a reformed gang member. There will also be a presentation from Bedford university on contextualised safeguarding, and one on trauma informed practice.
