Event description
A practical training course to help all practitioners who work with children to recognise the risks and harms of using social media, but to also equip them so they can use it positively and safely.
Training objectives
Candidates who come to this course will have very varying levels of experience, and knowledge about using social media. However all staff who attend will leave feeling more knowledgeable about the changes in technology, the implications for children (especially those who are vulnerable), how to recognise, and report issues when they become safeguarding issues and how to engage with children and young people in positive ways.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course participants will

  • Recognise the changing nature of technology

  • Recognise that an absence of knowledge is not an absence of responsibility

  • Understand the key e-safety issues including 'cyberbullying'

  • Develop organisational approaches to online safeguarding

  • Have seen positive ways of promoting social media with children.
