Research shows us that traumatic childhood experiences can have a profound impact on many different areas of functioning attachment, biological, sensory, physiology, social, emotional and psychological. Children of prisoners are 3 times more likely to have mental health issues and boys with a father in prison are twice a likely to offend (CREST 2019)

This training will raise your awareness of the needs of children and young people and their families impacted by a family member in prison.

If we are to best meet the needs of young people and minimise the risk of further trauma, a thorough understanding
of the benefits of a positive prison response to families is required.

This course will: Develop an understanding of the impact of parental offending on childhood trauma
Provide a forum to develop skills and nurture children and young people who feel ashamed, have to keep secrets may be experiencing financial difficulties and emotional distress. This course will provide attendees with access to local resources to support children and families with a family member in prison.

This course is for anyone who is interested in how we grow into and through adolescence and on how better to understand and relate to the young people we work with. The training will provide an introduction to the strengths challenges and disturbances of adolescence and the interventions which are likely to be most effective. It will cover the complex adolescent developmental process from a broad psychosocial perspective as well as taking into account biological influences on adolescent brain development.
